A dangerous trap

Have you ever found yourself in the midst of a very ugly situation and thought to yourself, "How in the world did I get here?"

The past few days I've spent time reading through Proverbs and there is so much wisdom Ladies in this small book of the bible. 31 Chapters covering less than 25 pages, one for each day of the month if one chooses to use it as a devotional.

God's instruction for us about a nagging wife, who likes a nagger? Wisdom about gossip and to stay away from a gossiper. Who to not lend money to and yet giving our money to the poor. A wise woman and a wicked woman. But as I came to the end of my reading I thought about how true these words have become for me. As I place them into action for my very own life, the peace that has come into our home is truly remarkable. It hasn't happened over night, as a matter of fact it has taken almost 10 years of putting one foot in front of the other. Along with tons of determination, God's direction and listening to godly counsel.

Brothers and Sisters if you are finding yourself in the midst of quarrels and ugliness, I would like to encourage you to spend some time with God in Proverbs. The enemy loves for us to stay away from God because he knows that is where our power comes from. Satan sets a trap for us, will you allow him to snare you?

I close with one or two Proverbs that hit me a fresh this morning:

"Fearing people is a dangerous trap, but to trust the LORD means safety." 29:25

"The godly despise the wicked; the wicked despise the godly." 29:27

"The heartfelt counsel of a friend is as sweet as perfume and incense." 27:9

"The LORD hates people with twisted hearts, but he delights in those who have integrity." 11:20

**All scripture comes from New Living Translation**

Lovingly,
Yolanda

Can I just say "yes and amen" to the first sentence? Man. I agree with you that the Proverbs truly do provide some of the best guidelines for living if we would just keep our noses in them!

Yolanda,

Have you done Beth Moore's study "Wising Up"? It is all from Proverbs and deals with EVERY area of a woman's life. It is tremendous--one of those once-is-not-enough studies. I highly recommend it.

Oh - it seems like the enemy has had my head under a pillow lately. He's trying his best to keep me down. But I have been released, rescued and stand in the freedom of my Lord, JESUS CHRIST today!

Proverbs in a great book. I just went through it myself a few months ago. Such wisdom there if we will only heed it!
Thanks for this one...

I have been in Proverbs these last few days too, and interestingly, also in the midst of quarrels. I have left the quarrels behind but continue in Proverbs. Thanks for this today Yolanda. I have had much on my mind that this has addressed to some degree.

Much love to you.

Yolanda,

Praise God and Amen to all those great proverbs you posted.

It's a book I should be spending all of my days in, since the enemy never gives up and tries new ways to get us to spend even less time with God.

Thanks for a gentle reminder and where I will end up once school is done for the day.

Hope you had a great weekend!

Praise God and Amen! Thank you Yolanda for this post. I am going to make it a point to revisit Proverbs myself today because I need to be reminded of so many words of wisdom found there, especially in times such as today. I've been struggling with something in particular and looking to Him for His answer.

Love you,
Alleluiabelle

Proverbs is so chock full of everything; I sometimes get bogged down in just one verse. I could spend a long season in this particular book but have chosen to read one a day in certain months and need to get back to it soon.

Blessings to you in your week, friend.

Yes... there is a ton a wisdom for practical living packed away in that little book. And speaking of nagging... or quarrling... my husband will often stop me in my tracks when he just responds with this little statement... "let me just move to the corner of the roof". That is all it takes for me to realize that I am not being the wife tha God has called me to be.

Thanks so much for the reminder...
Blessings,
Lynn

Proverbs is a great book of wisdom.
And, yes....I've gotten myself into situations where I've said that very thing...."How did I get myself in the middle of this?!!!"

Yolanda,
I love the reminder about "fearing" people! Pleasing "man" can be such a trap can't it? Proverbs is so full of just plain old common sense.
Thank you for the good medicine today!
Blessings!

Hi Yolanda my sweet Blog Friend! I've been reading blogs through my Google Reader without making time to comment (but that's how I will get to stay with blogging this time I guess!). Anyhoo.... I hope you are doing so great. I love this post. I am in the midst of an ugly relationship with family members who are non~believers... And it is a daily struggle to remain true to who I am in Christ. I don't struggle with myself being ugly so much as I struggle with being in a situation with folks being ugly to me and my (immediate) family and how to respond in love ~ since you can't walk away from family! Anyway, LOVE this post bc truly the answer is to remain steadfast in Jesus, in the Word and He will provide the way. Ok, now I've written a book for a comment! :)
